Varanasi Weather and Seasons

Best Seasons

Because of its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer, Varanasi enjoys a pleasant winter with a daytime temperature of around 20 deg C. The temperature can touch a low of around 10 deg C in late December and January with heavy fog in the early part of the day. October-November and February-March are usually comfortable and sunny. The summer season is, however, harsh in Varanasi. Beginning in April and continuing through June, it is extremely dry and daytime temperatures often climb up to as high as 45 deg C. The monsoon season, which starts by late June or early July, brings torrential rains and high humidity to the city. By late September, however, the weather returns to a comfortable level. Cotton clothing is ideal for summers and light woolens are apt for winters.

    Best Time to Visit

Best Season: Throughout the year, but preferably October to March.

September to March is a good time to visit Varanasi --just after the monsoons have washed the city's grit and grime, and well before the sweltering summer months of May and June. As the city celebrates a number of festivals all year round, this time of year too is filled with colourful, lamp-lit festivals such as Kartik Poornima and the Float festival.

Varanasi has pleasant winters and hot, humid summers. Summer temperatures peak at 45 deg C and although the monsoon brings some respite in June-July, it also brings with it heavy showers and humidity.
