Vaishno Devi - वैष्णो देवी |
|
The holy cave shrine of Vaishno Devi is tucked away in a niche of the Trikuta mountains of the lower Himalayas, 61 km north of Jammu and at a height of 5,200 feet above sea level. The total length of the holy cave is about 98 feet. The closest town to Vaishno Devi is Katra which serves as a base camp and from where every year, 4.5 million devotees negotiate their way 13 km north to Vaishno Devi by foot. The yatra or route is from Katra to Ban Ganga (1.5 km), from Ban Ganga to Charan Paduka and Adhkunwari (1.5 km) and finally from Adhkunwari to Vaishno Devi (7 km). Each stop traces the footsteps of the legend of Vaishno Devi as she made her way to the hill-cave.
