Access Trichy is connected by a good network of roads to all important places in Tamil Nadu and there are frequent bus services from Trichy to all major places in the state. Railway Stations

Trichy is the hub of Southern Railway's operation to connect this central part of Tamil Nadu to various parts of India, notably regions in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, Maharastra, Karnataka, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh. Trichy Railway Junction has five branches leading to Madurai, Rameswaram, Coimbatore, Tanjore and Chennai and currently there are 7 platforms. Currently few of them are Meter gauge tracks being phased under Project Unigauge out as of 2006. After the completion of all ongoing gauge conversion projects in Tamil Nadu, Trichy is set to become one of the busiest railway junctions. The Electrification between Villupuram and Trichy is expected to be completed by September 2008. The railway station code for Trichy Junction is TPJ.

Rail

Trichy is an important breakpoint of the Southern Railway. It connects Tamil Nadu to various parts of India including regions in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Tiruchirapalli is connected by rail with all major towns and cities in south India. Important rail junction; the station you want is Trichy Junction. Nagappatinam (6 hrs), Madurai (3 hrs), Chennai (10 hrs), Pondicherry (9 hrs) and Rameswaram (6 hrs).

Road

Trichy is well connected by road to the rest of South India by frequent state and private buses that ply between Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Kanyakumari.

Main and express bus-stands are 800m from the station, many routes including Maduari (2 hrs).

Bus Stand

There are two bus stands right next to each other, the State bus stand and the Thiruvalluvar bus stand (23680). At the State bus stand you buy your ticket from the conductor when the bus arrives. Express buses say "Fast" (in English) on the front of the bus. There are frequent buses to Thanjavur (1½ hr, every 15 min) and Madurai (3 or 4 hr, 15 daily). Bus #1 brings you to the Srirangam Temple and the Rock Fort.
