Shekhawati - शेखावाटी |
|
Shekhawati was a federation of small prosperous Rajput states centred on Sikar, 100 km north- west of Jaipur. As elsewhere in Rajasthan and Gujarat the wealthy built themselves fine housed, or havelis; unlike most other places many of these are adorned by murals. Shekhawati or "garden of Shekha" is popularly called the "open air art gallery". Shekhawati boasts of some world class frescoes created between 1750 and 1930. The ancestial homes of some industrialists like Birlas and Goenkas can be seen in this region)
Mandawa lies at the heart of the Shekhawati region of northern Rajasthan
