The eponymous bison

About 10 metres from the lodge is a watering hole which attracts a congregation of bison during the early hours of the morning ergo, the imaginative name. The valley below the lodge has a charming lake, which I guarantee you will have to yourself, and the hills that rise on the opposite bank are covered with thick sholas. Stroll down to the lake and watch the reflection of the hills and the setting sun glisten on the surface of the water. Often you will see sambhar walk out of the forest on the opposite bank for a drink. The lake always has some grebes on it. Red wattled lapwings nest on the shores and keep calling out to their mates.

Walks in Shola Nadu

The forests are of three varieties tropical, temperate and montane grasslands on the higher reaches. We enjoyed alternating between these forests each day. I managed to get a good sighting of the mongoose. Walk for four to five hours during the first half of the day before lunch.
