Pachmarhi - पचमढ़ी


In the Satpura Range at 3,500 ft, in south-central Madhya Pradesh. Pachmarhi, at 1067 m is the hill resort of Madhya Pradesh. The climate in summer is certainly fresher than the plains. In winter temperatures drop to zero. Surrounded by the rugged Satpura hills and forest, Pachmarhi offers grand scenery and good walking. Some of thenumerous waterfalls have pools saft for swimming. The Lansdowne golf course is one of the oldest in India, and equipment can be hird.

Pachmari is also a place of pilgrimage. The Mahadeo Shrine and its deep cave been holy places for centuries. Mahadeo is a form of Shiva, and large numbers of holy men congregate for Shivaratri (February/ March). Chauragarh is a hilltop Shiva shrine well worth the walk. Many other cave shrines are dotted around, some with ancient paintings.

Situated at an altitude of 1067 metres, Pachmarhi is a large plateau ringed by hills on the evergreen Satpura range. Being the only hill resort in Madhya Pradesh, it is a popular place for nature lovers and sportsmen. The landscape is characterised by rugged hills, forests and ravines.
