Nainital is a major summer destination and is best visited when people are thinking of avoiding the heat in the plains. Mid-April to mid-July and October are the high seasons here. But then of course, if you like to chill out what ever the weather, do come during November. Sip on the hot tea as the locals do, for the weather can be rather nippy.   • September - March Between March to June and mid-September to end of October are ideal for a vacation by the lake. The weather is pleasant and the waters of the lake are ideal for boating. The monsoon season between end of June and August is avoidable as Nainital is lashed with heavy rains. It also experiences heavy snowfall in the month of January.

    The climate in Nainital is characterized by freezing winters, pleasant summers and torrential monsoons. The location of the hill station makes it colder than the rest of the Kumaon region. Similarly, the monsoon is felt with great intensity here, with the heaviest rainfall being on the outer slopes of the hills. The rainy season begins earlier than in the plains and continues right until the end of September. Nainital also experiences sporadic rainfall in winter and snowfall is the heaviest in January or in early February when temperatures drop to 2 degrees C. Summer temperatures rarely rise above 27 degrees C.

    Clothing

    Light woolens & cotton during summers & heavy woolen during winters. Carry your best raingear if traveling during monsoons. Heavy boots and raincoat are a must.
