Mayavaram - மாயவரம்


The presiding deity is Sri Mayuranathaswamy, a Swayambu Lingam, and His consort Abhayapradhambika. Devi Parvati assumed the form of a Mayura (peahen), worshipped Siva and attained reunion with the Lord. Hence the place is known as Mayuram, Mayavaram or Myliaduthurai. It is said that Brahma. Lakshmi, Brihaspati, Indra, Manmatha and sages like Agastya and even birds and animals woshipped the Lord here and attained eternal bliss. A holy dip Cauvery in Thula or Aippasi (Oct-Nov) os considered auspicious.Mayavaram is 70 km from Thanjavur & 120 km from Tiruchi.

This sthalam is a village which is situated in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu.
It lies in between Mayavaram junctiont and Kuttalam station on the main railway line between Chennai (Madras) to Tajore. This temple can also be reached by travelling around 7 km from Kuttalam and about 8 km from Mayavaram. This Divyadesam is also called with other names such as Azhundoor, Azhundhai, Therazhunthur.
