Miles of sandy beaches and lagoons
Surrounded on all four sides by water, Lakshadweep is made up of 36 islands. We have chosen Bangaram island this time. These lines are an ode to Bangaram - the Jewel among Lakshwadeep's 36 islands. The gateway to Lakshwadeep is via Cochin. From there you can catch a flight to the island of Agatti. It takes another one and a half-hour by boat to get to Bangaram. Don't forget your permit without which you cannot enter the island.
For us, however, the magic began with an aerial view of the teardrop shaped uninhabited island. It took us a couple of hours to just get used to the shades of blue on these 128 acres of tropical paradise.
Accommodation is rather steeply priced at 7000 rupees for a double room, which explains the dominance of foreign tourists here.
For the adventurous there is no dearth of what one can do in Bangaram. You don't have to be an expert diver or even a swimmer to enjoy a dive among the corals. For those of you who want to take it easy, go canoeing, kayaking or just soak in the sun.
