One of the most popular tourist destinations in India, Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu temples, famous for their erotic sculpture. The name, 'Khajuraho' is derived from the Hindi word, khajur meaning date palm.In the Bundelkhand region in northern Madhya Pradesh.
The capital of the Chandela Kings, Khajuraho is famous for its magnificent temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Jain Tirthankaras. These temples were built between 950 AD. & 1050 AD. and represent some of the most exquisite specimens of art and architecture in medieval India. Only 22 temples of the original 85 now survive.
