Location

Kanyakumari is located at about 8.080 N and 77.570 E. It has an average elevation of 0 metres. It lies at the metting point of three bodies of water: the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Kanyakumari is the terminating point of the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats. On the north and the east, it is bounded by the Tirunelveli District.

By Air

The nearest airport is at Trivandrum (87 km). It is directly connected with Bangalore, Mumbai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, and Chennai by regular flights.

By Rail

Kanyakumari is connected to Trivandrum, Delhi, and Mumbai by broad-gauge railway network. Tirunelvelli (80 km) is the other nearest railway junction and can be reached by road via Nagarkoil (19 km).

By train from Thiruvananthapuram (2 ¼ hrs). The once weekly Him-Sagar Expresss runs direct from kanyakumari to Jammu via Ernakulam, Chennai, and Delhi; at 3730 km and just over 3 ½ days this is the longest ride on Inidan Railways.

Kanniyakumari is connected with Tirunelveli, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore and Coimbatore. Tirunelveli (83 kms.) is connected to Chennai, Madurai, etc.

Bus or taxi from Thiruvananthapuram (2 ½ hrs), Kovalam (3 hrs), Ernakulam, and Madurai (6 hrs). There is also a good network of roads and connect to all the major cities of the region.

Bus Stand

The bus station is about half a km (15-min walk) west of the center of town.There are buses to Chennai (703km, 16 hr, 7 daily), Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum, 2½ hr), Rameswaram (409 km, 9 hr), and Madurai (245km, 6 hr, 3 daily). There are regular local buses to Nagercoil. Nagercoil is a major bus junction, with two large bus stations. You can get buses for all over South India from there. From Kovalam (4 daily) you get the bus to Kanyakumari at the bus stand near the Ashok Beach Resort.
