Situated on the banks of the Rivers Saraswati and Khan, Indore was planned and founded by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar and derives its name from the 18th C. Indreshwar Temple. Indore, the seat of Holkars is set on the banks of river Saraswati and Khan in the heart of Picturesque Malwa plateau. It was planned and built by Rani Ahilya Bai and named after the 18th century Indreshwar temple. Planned and built by Rani Ahilyabai, the brave Holkar queen, Indore lies to the extreme west of Madhya Pradesh on the banks of the rivers Saraswati. The bustling and vibrant city, 186km from Bhopal, derives its name from the 18th century Indeshwar temple. It is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh. Located in the Narmada river valley, it is in western part of Madhya Pradesh, and south of the Satpura Range. River Saraswati and River Kham, (tributaries of Shipra) flow through Indore.
