Hassan District was under the reign of Mouryas of North in the 3rd BC and later kingdoms of Kadambas, Chalukyas, Gangas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar empire. The Hoysalas brought world wide acclaim to the district through their unique style of temple architecture.
