Air

The Jollygrant airport at Deheradun is the nearest airport. It is serviced by regular flights from Delhi.

Road

Buses from Shimla, Varanasi, Dehradun and Delhi ply regularly on the roads between Haridwar and Rishikesh. There are regular buses connecting both the cities too.

Bus Stand

These services originate from yatra bus stand on the Dehradun Road, one km from the Main bus stand. From the yatra bus stand during the pilgrimage season, buses leave regularly for Badrinath, Kedarnath & to the last road heads for Gangotri & Yamnotri.

Rail

There are many trains from all part of the country, mainly from New Delhi which go through both Rishikesh and Haridwar. In addition to trains from other part of the country coming to both the cities, there are regular shuttle services between Haridwar and Rishikesh too.

Even though there is a branch line between Haridwar & Rishikesh and a shuttle train service operating but the faster & swift mode of transport to Rishikesh is by road from Haridwar (22km) or Dehradun (42 km). Bookings can be made at the railway station.

Local transport such as Cycle Rikshaw, Auto Rikshaw, Tonga, Tempo(vikram), Taxi are available for moving inside the city from one place to another. Taxi stand is located just outside the Railway station and opposite the bus stand.

Getting Around

If you are planning to travel between Haridwar and Rishikesh, the best bet would be to hire a taxi. You can go off on your own little expeditions exploring all the temples in the area. This is advisable if you are traveling with older people and kids even though it's slightly expensive. There are buses and trains connecting both the cities too. Once at Haridwar, it's ideal to take it on foot. Explore the various temples and ghats which add to the sanctity of the place. At Rishikesh, you can catch up with the latest fads in yoga, and its best explored at a leisurely pace. You can also hire cycle rikshaws to go places here. You can also go around on ferries on the river.

Travel Direction

The closest airport to Haridwar is the Jolly Grant airfield, 35 km from Haridwar. The Haridwar railway station is directly connected by rail to most major cities such as Delhi (199 km), Agra (365 km), Lucknow (475 km), Howrah (1438 km) and Mumbai (1574 km). Some of the trains that run from here are the Mussoorie Express, the Shatabdi Express and the Dehradun Express. Haridwar is located on National Highway no. 45 and is connected to all major centres of the region by both local and luxury buses which regularly leave for these towns from the Station Bus Stand.

The bus- stand is adjacent to the railway station, though most services into the mountains leave from Rishikesh. A very good train connection is the Shatabdi train which takes you there are an amaging speed.
