Road

Goa is also well connected through bus services, there are a lot of AC, sleeper, slumberette Volvo's that travel every night connecting Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune. Smaller destinations are connected with non-ac buses and non-Volvo buses too. For those who wish to drive, the roads connecting Goa are great drives. Bombay-Goa highway is beautiful and very picturesque; but the road is full of ghats (curves, you drive through some eight hills), so keep your Avomine's handy if you do not take road travel well.

Goa is well connected by National Highways and State Highways. The capital of Goa is connected by Inter-State buses to Bangalore 598 km, Kochi 833 km, Daman 787 km, Pune 458 km, Ratnagiri 263 km. Shirdi 664 km, Mumbai 594 km, Mangalore 371 km, Mahabaleswar 425 km, Jog falls 274 km.

Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka state road transport corporations operate services out of Panaji’s Kadamba bus stand. Many private bus companies have offices outside the entrance to the bus stand. Luxury and airconditioned buses are available to Mumbai, Bangalore, Hampi and other destinations. Most private interstate buses arrive and depart from a separate bus stand next to the Mandovi Bridge. Paulo Tours and Travel has nightly sleeper coaches to Hampi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Rail

If you prefer the railways, the 760 km Konkan Railway offers a picturesque rail trip that takes you through 90-meter high bridges and a number of tunnels. In Goa the train stops at Pernem (for those along Arambol and the north end of Goa) Thivim (for those staying along the Candolim, Calangute stretch), at Karmali (for those around Panjim) and then Madgaon (for those in the south of Goa). Your journey will take a few hours longer if you are travelling in the monsoons.

The main railway station in Goa is Madgaon (Margao). Vasco is the oldest railway station of Goa. With the opening of kankan Railway, rail jurney to Goa has becme very convenient and quick with direct services from Delhi, Ahemedabad, Mumbai, Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram. Major station in Goa are Pednem, Thivim (Near Mapusa), Karmali (near Old Goa) Madgaon and Canacona.

Railway Stations

Goa has two major railway stations - Margao and Vasco-da-Gama Both these stations are located in the southern area of the state. The South Central Railway terminus is at Vasco-da-Gama and the Konkan Railway terminus is at Margao

Goa is also well connected by rail. If you want to know about the Trains to Goa, here’s some information for you. The high-speed Konkan Railway has a daily train which hardly takes around 8-9 hours. Other trains between Mumbai and Panaji take around 10-12 hours. There are trains from Goa even past Mumbai to other northern areas of India right up to Delhi and down south to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Air

Goa's international airport is Dabolim, which is 29 km from Panaji near Vasco Da Gama. There are more than 20 flights that come in to Goa on a daily basis. A lot of chartered flights too that land at this airport, but there are some rules and regulations on this one.

Goa has an airport of Dabolim, named Goa Airport. It is situated near the part city of Vasco da Gama, 30 km from the capital Panaji. Direct flights by Indian Airlines and private airlines with Bangalore, Delhi, Kochi, Mumbai etc. Jet Airways has four flights daily between Delhi & Mumbai. Sahara Airlines also files direct to Mumbai&Delhi.

Getting Around

Travelling in Goa is expensive. If you hire out a taxi -- these are very easily available -- you will end up spending a lot more on travel than on your food and drinks. Hiring out Cars and Bikes is a good option, helmets are a must in Goa. You could take the bus too, but the service is slow and not very clean, so take the bus only between big cities, like Madgaon-Panjim, or Panjim-Mapusa, as on these routes you will get non stop service. The best option to travel around is to hire a pilot; in Goa you get bikes on hire, where you can ride on pillion. Then of course you have the ferry service that connects a few of the towns, it's an good way to save on gas and time when you're on a holiday. Fuel is a wee bit cheaper in Goa than in other states!

Goa is linked by air to the major cities. A spate of new domestic carriers has increased the air traffic to Goa in recent times. The nearest railhead is Vasco da Gama, 35 km from Panaji and Goa is also linked by road to Ahmedabad (1138 km), Aurangabad (699 km), Bangalore (592 km), Mumbai (597 km), Chennai (923 km), Pune (473 km).
