Corbett - कॉर्बेट

The magnificent park established way back in 1936, is one of the best known sancturaries of India. It is named after Jim corbett, the famous hunter author and consr\ervator. The park covers a large forested area of over 520 Sq.km, comprising of foot hills of shivalik ranges and the patlidun of shivalik ranges and the Patlidun valley with swiftly flowing river Ramanga. The varied topography thus provides home to rich and diverse wildlife. The dense jungles of the park are famous for the tiger of Kumaon. It is also a haven for the panther, wild boar, sloth bear, elephant, deer, python, cobra, crocodile and gharial etc. the river Ramanga is full of mahseer, trout and goonch fishes. The park is also and 'ornithologist's paradise', as over (538 species of birds have been recorded here. The nearest airport is Pantnagar (130 km) and rail head is at Ramnagar (50kms), which is an obligatory entrance for the park.Kaladhungi (81 km) is known for Corbett's Museum, dedicated to the great hunter.
Situated in the Shivalik Range, the park is intersected by Ramganga, Sonanadi, Mandal and Palain rivers. Part of the state of Uttaranchal, it is at an altitude of between 400 m and 1,000 m above sea level.
