Breathtakingly beautiful Bomdila, 3,500 metres high in the Himalayas, is the headquarters of the west Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh. This lofty paradise is snow clad for a major part of the year and makes a delightful destination to get away to in summer. The scenic road from Tezpur winds steeply through thick forests, to this beautiful, sleepy town at 2530 ft. Steeped in Buddhist mysticism, Bomdila is the headquarter of the West Kameng District of the state. Surrounded by snow clad mountains, terraced paddy fields and apple orchards, this town is known for its Buddhist monasteries. The Crafts Centre is famous for its carpet weaving. The original inhabitants belong to the Monpa and Sherdukpen tribes and they combine Tibetan Buddhism with some of their original animal rituals and beliefs.
