You can drive into Amritsar from the neighbouring states. Bus services connect the city to most north Indian towns, including Chandigarh (235 km), New Delhi (450 km), Shimla (322 km) and Jammu (219 km). There is also a bus service to Lahore (35 km away), which is the only overland connection between India and Pakistan.Amritsar is linked comfortably from Delhi by regular buses operating from ISBT. You can also choose to drive down from Delhi or Jamshedpur.
Amritsar is connected by bus with Ambala, Chandigarh, Delhi, Ferozepur, Jammu etc.
Bus Stand
Bus Taking a train from Delhi is more comfortable than taking a 10-hour bus ride. There are early morning buses to Dehra Dun (10 hr), Dharamsala, and Kullu (11 hr). There are frequent buses to Pathankot (3 hr), Jammu (5 hr) and Chandigarh (6 hr).To get to Rajasthan is not so easy, unless you go first to Delhi. You can get a bus to Ganganagar (10 hr) in Rajasthan.
Rail
Amritsar is connected by direct trains to major Indian cities like Delhi, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolkata and Puri. The bi-weekly train to Lahore in Pakistan, the Samjhauta Express, also rolls out from here.Amritsar is well connected on the highway grid to all the major cities of northern India.
By rail Well connected from Lahore in Pakistan (3 1/3 hrs), Delhi (10 hrs, only 8 hrs by Paschim A/C Express, Jammu (5 ¼ hrs), change in Pathankot. Also a line to Tarn Taran.
Railway Stations
Rail The station is a 10-minute auto-rickshaw ride from the Golden Temple. From the railway station to the Golden Temple by auto-rickshaw costs Rs 30; by bicycle-rickshaw Rs 15.Private bus companies, located near the train station, run express buses to Chandigarh and Jammu. Private bus companies sell tickets through agents near the railway station.
Amritsar Station has regular trains plying from Delhi and Tatanagar.
Air
The Raja Sansi airport, about 11 km from town, is connected by domestic flights to Delhi, Srinagar and Chandigarh. You can get to town by a pre-booked rented car, taxis or auto-rickshaws.Raja Sansi Airport in Amritsar is located 12 km from the city. Pre paid taxis and autos are available to get to the city centre.
The Raja Sansi Airport is just 10 km from the main city of Amritsar and taxis are easily available to and from the airport. There are connecting flights from Amritsar to Delhi - London and Delhi - New York.

Getting Around
Cycle rickshaws for short distances; unmetered auto rickshaws, taxis and rented cars for long distances. Chauffeur-driven as well as self-driven vehicles are available for hire, either from the hotel you are staying in or from car rental agencies spread throughout the city. Cars are usually rented on a half-day or full-day charge. Taxis are available around the station. If you wish to travel short distances within the city and don't mind some exercise, bicycles available from the Hide Market are worth trying out.Though there are local buses, we don't recommend them. Try the local taxis instead - these are generally metered. And if you are the one who enjoys a slow and patient local tour, hop on to the cycle rickshaws.
