Amritsar- The city of the Golden Temple. Amritsar is in the northwestern region of India, in the state of Punjab, The city lies on the famous Grand Trunk Road that connects Delhi, Jalandhar and Amritsar, and these to Lahore.Amritsar is one of the most important pilgrimage centers especially for the Sikhs in the country.

The holy city of Sikhs has grown from a sacred village pond into a spiritual temporal centre of Sikh culture. The City gets its name from the pool- Amritsar (Pool of Nectar), which was said to have been constructed by the fourth Guru of the Sikh faith. The town built around the Golden Temple is the hub of the Sikh culture. It is, today, an important industrial center with a flourishing textile industry, the second largest milk processing plant in the country and thriving electric goods, autoparts and a carpet weaving industry.
