Amravati - अमरावती |
|
About 30 km from Vijayawada, this town is known for its Maha Chaitya or Great Stupa. It was once a flourishing Buddhist settlement on the Krishna River. At the Archaeological Museum, you can see limestone sculptures of a 2 m high Buddha in elegant robes and a remarkable life-sized ceremonial bull. Close to the Museum is the Amareshvara Temple built during the 10th century.
