Spice Village provides you with accommodation in cottages that are made of bricks and logs. The elephant grass-thatched roof resembles the traditional tribal huts and is made using techniques employed by the tribals. Despite being very traditional in its structure and lookout, it incorporates all the modern day conveniences and the latest amenities. The resort strikes a fine balance between the traditional and modern features. Air conditioning is intentionally avoided to maintain the natural feel of the resort.
At Spice Village, the guests get an opportunity to sample authentic Kerala dishes, prepared in local flavours. The meals served here taste best when they are enjoyed at an unhurried pace. Generous with spices and coconut, you can relish these dishes comfortably seated on the wooden tables. You can chose to have your meals outdoors , sitting on the veranda as well. When you are struck by the hunger pangs between your meals, head straight to the 'Tiffin room', and take a few light bites. The furniture in rosewood are pieces from a restaurant that was built a century ago. Enter the cottage and instantly the space provided will strike a chord with a part of you that is frustrated of small congested rooms. The floor beneath your feet is a terracotta one and the beds & furniture are made up from pine. There are larger cottages as well in case you want more space with a little garden.
Each of the garden is set in its own area and right in the middle is a large swimming pool surrounded by tropical trees and lawns.
Then, there is also the historic Tiffin Room where light snacks greet you throughout the day. The furnitures of this room originally belonged to a 100-year old restaurant in the next valley. Unfortunately, it closed down in 1995 and the furnitures became a pride of the Tiffin Room of the Spice Village.

A stay in the cottages in the Spice Village gives you a feeling of staying in an era when modern multi storeyed houses did not exist. Each of the cottage here (and there are a total of 52) is a classic example of the houses in which the tribals of the Periyar Forest stayed, or rather still stay. The spice village consists of 52 huts furnished in traditional Keralite architecture with simple sophistication, terra cotta tiled floors, wooden beds and chairs. Each dwelling is thatched with elephant grass and offers simple luxury and privacy. Rooms provide a telephone, a fan and en suite bath with hot and cold running water. A verandah runs round the entire cottage and each dwelling is set in its own land. Spice Village has an exclusive Ayurvedic clinic, well equipped for treatments like Pizhichil, Njavarakizhy, Dhara and other natural therapies.
