Sathodi Falls in Karnataka is about 32 km form Yellapur. Close to Sirsi in Uttar Kananda there are many streams that join together in the Kallaramane Ghat and cascade into a 15m picturesque Sathodi falls. It further joins the backwaters of Kodasalli dam that is built over the Kali River.
Our spirits were high as we drove in our Ambassador 475 km to Yellapur. Yellapur is a small village in Uttara Kannada (North Karnataka) famous for its Falls and Forests. Most of Falls are not known to the outside world because of the treacherous routes and difficulty in reaching the place. We had taken a recommendation letter from a VIP in Bangalore to house us in one of the best places out there, The Forest Guest House. Indeed it was one of the best the places available; we spent our night enquiring about our destination. Almost all of them warned us not to spend the night there as it was infested with ‘Kalinga’ (Black Cobra) and leeches. Due to heavy rains almost daily, the path would be slippery and the leeches will have a feast of our blood. We paid little attention to their advice as we were looking for adventure, and we hoped we can face any consequence. (Rambo style) About 32 km away from Yellapur in Uttara Kannada District close to Sirsi, several unknown streams converge near Kallaramane Ghat and Plunge from a height of about 15m to create a picturesque waterfall and then joins the backwaters of Kodasalli dam built across Kali River. We can also view the coconut tree tops that went down under back waters. This is situated in the midst of dense forests.
