Dudhsagar Falls - दुधसागर फाल्स

The Dudhsagar Falls are amongst the top 100 highest waterfalls in world. Situated on the border of Goa and Karnataka, the Dudhsagar Waterfalls takes a steep plunge 2000 feet down in the wooded mountains of the western Ghats. Believed to be amongst the highest falls in the country, these magnificent falls are located in a blissful tropical jungle with crisscrossing streams. The view from the top of the falls is breathtaking. The falls looks even better at magical light of dawn.

What to do at falls

Swimming is a good options at the bottom of the falls. But one has to make sure that the water is calm in desired area. The sure-footed adventurers could try and climb up to the head of the falls through bushes, boulders and water. It’s a tough climb which takes at least a couple of hours. The fall's surrounding area form a good picnic spot. While visiting Dudhsagar falls, one should ensure that at least entire day is spent near the falls.

Getting there

Dudhsagar falls are in the forests of western ghats. The falls can be reached by a train from Margoa. The train takes around 2 hours. Alternatively, taxis and buses can be hired. Motorcycles are not recommended as the way to falls have many rivers and canals, which often overflow. Reaching Margoa is easier, as Margoa is connected by direct trains to the nearby states. The Dambolin Airport in Vasco-da-Gama is 5 Km from Margoa.

India's waterfalls aren't the easiest to research, however Dudhsagar Falls is obviously one of the most well known falls in the country. It is widely claimed to be the tallest falls in India, which it may or may not actually be, we're questioning that claim. The falls occur high up on the Mandovi River's watershed, so during the dry season, the falls aren't all that impressive, however, when the monsoons arrive, this becomes one of the most powerful falls in the country. We've also seen a photograph of a sign at the falls which claims a height of 310m for the falls. We checked it against the Indian survey maps, and found it is nowhere near 600m in height. 310m, on the other hand, seems entirely realistic.
