Waterfalls in India
During the North-East and South-West Monsoons (Rainy Seasons) peninsular India receives plenty of rainfall and the mountains are drenched with the basic element of life: WATER. Waterfalls, streams, canals and rivers running down the mountain slopes add to the beauty of our rolling hills. A Waterfall is a beautiful image to behold whether we see it from far or near. The sound of water flow adds another beautiful dimension to the overall trekking experience.
There are plenty of scenic Waterfalls in the Western Ghats in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. A peculiar character in Tamil Nadu waterfalls is that most of these locations have been converted to commercial towns right upto the Falls landing, with shops and hotels lined up all along. Also, in most of Tamil Nadu Waterfalls, there are exquisite arrangements for the tourists to take bath below the Waterfalls like cemented platforms, rails, changing rooms, seperate areas for Men/Women, etc. This has more to do with the fact that most Tamil Nadu Waterfalls are located adjacent to a historic religious site where the pilgrims used the Waterfalls to wash themselves clean and piously before entering the temples. Kerala and Karnataka Waterfalls are to be enjoyed from a distance, mostly the opposing hill.
There are quite a large number of Waterfalls, some un-named on way from Gangtok to Nathu La which are also very beautiful. There are many tall Waterfalls in the North East as well.
