Annapurna Jomsom trek commences with a 30-minute early morning flight to Jomsom, the major trading center in lower Mustang. From Jomsom, we head north to Kagbeni, an ancient fortress settlement on the boarder of Upper Mustang. Kagbeni has many interesting aspects and its ways of life have changed little although some rather inappropriate concrete lodges which have been built over the last few years hardly compliment what is otherwise a lovely little place. The following day is a four hour hike through arid country up to the temple of Muktinath . The terrain here gradually gives way to the Tibetan plateau providing some fascinating rock formations on route. Rather than spending overnight at Muktinath ( which over the years has become bland) we retrace our steps for an hour or so to reach Jarkot village. This village has in the main managed to retain its traditional way of life. The following few days are spent traveling back along the Kali Gandaki gorge passing through many fascinating Thakali villages along the way.

Marpha village in particular is a very pleasant "stop off" point. It is famous for its apple brandy (you can visit the brewery). On from Marpha towards Kalapani where the scenery changes becoming a lot more alpine. A further two days through pine forests towards the hot springs of Tatopani where we rest up for a day. Two more days trekking up before reaching Ghorepani and Poon hill for sun rise over the Himalayas . On our return we stop for one night in the beautiful large Gurung village of Ghandruk .... great views of Annapurna south and Macchapachare. Our last day is an easy descent to Nayapul where transport awaits for the one & half hour journey to the hotel in Pokhara. A very rewarding trek providing insight into different cultures as well as a wide range of scenery and tremendous mountain views.

Jomsom Pokhara Trekking - 14 Days

The Jomsom trek is a wonderful opportunity to witness the beauty of the Annapurna region with a shorter trek. The 6 day trek to Jomsom is essentially the last third of the Annapurna circuit. The trip starts just north of the city of Pokhara and winds through the Poon Hill area and then passes the Dhalagiri icefall giving you a prime view of all the mountains. After reaching Jomsom the trek heads up to Muktinath, an important pilgrimage place for Buddhists and Hindu's which lies on the Tibetan plateau. This area gives you a look at the high and dry landscape that is all the Tibetan plateau. The trek ends with a plane ride from Jomsom to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu. This is one of the lower elevation treks that we offer rising to only 3800 m.
