Willingdon Sports Club is a sports club situated in the heart of Mumbai. It was built in 1933 by Lord Willingdon, the then Governor of Bombay (later Viceroy of India). Willingdon was refused permission to take an Indian Maharaja with him to the Bombay Gymkhana, which then allowed only whites and hence decided to start a club that both Indians and Europeans could go to. The club has an 18 hole golf course and a flower garden. It is very difficult to get membership into this exclusive club. A banquet was held here in 1954 to celebrate the first Filmfare awards ceremony. The event was attended by actor Gregory
