A popular picnic spot, Balighai Beach is known for its greenery provided by the Casuarina trees. The whole beach is adorned with these Casuarina trees thus changing the entire look of the beach. The collocation of the river with Casuarina lining with the sudden desolate ocean is unimaginably beautiful. The whole evenness of the land is broken by the sudden geographical change is not so much noticeable. But the effect is tremendous. The sight of river meeting the sea is a divine one. Balighai Beach is also very much famous for its biodiversity.

One other major attraction of the Balighai Beach is the Sea Turtle Research Center. This is an important center dedicated to the research and the development of the sea turtles. Since it is a know fact that the turtles are on the verge of extinction, thus center has managed to make some breakthrough discoveries in terms of the habitats of the turtles in the nearby regions and also far away places. Besides the Sea Turtle Research Center, there is one more attraction of the place namely , Chaurasi . This place is a site of shrines dedicated to Laxminarayanan, Amareshras and Barahi. Worshiping the deities dates back to about 9th century. It is said that some tantrik practices were also involved in the process. This shrine is situated about 14 Km from Kakatpur on the way to Konark at Chaurasi.

Such is the flora and the fauna of the place that until you reach the place , you will not believe the rich treasure that the place possesses. So hold your breath till you reach the this exotic ideal beach destination. The variety of flora and fauna found in Balighai Beach is something amazing. And if you are lucky enough then you might even catch a glimpse of the shy Baliharina deer , which is one of the specialty of the region. They inhabit in groups and survive on the plush greenery all around. There are many other creatures found but mostly take shelter in the forest and do not reveal from their normal hide outs.

The Casuarina fringed Balighai beach, located 8 km from Puri, Bhubaneswar (62 km) is a famous picnic spot. The juxt a position of gentle casuarina-lined river with crashing, desolate ocean coast is a strange and extremely beautiful.One may also catch a glimpse of the shy Baliharina deer who inhabit the area. The Sea Turtle Research Centre is another attraction of this beach.

Chaurasi

Chaurasi is the site of the shrines dedicated to Laxminarayanan, Amareshras and Barahi. Barahi is a deity dating back to the 9th century AD, worshipped according to tantrik practices. She is a mother goddess with the face of a boar and is depicted holding a fish in one hand and a cup in another. This shrine is 14 km from Kakatpur on the way to Konark at Chaurasi.
