Island of Jambudwip and Fraserganj are located close to this beach. Located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal the beach is favorite among many foreign tourists. Each year millions of visitors visit the beach. At Bakkhali, the beach is long and sandy, the waves twinkling in the sunlight. Dense casuarina groves drape the beach. It is so near Calcutta and yet so very different from the bustling metropolis that is Calcutta. Bakkhali is only 132 km from Calcutta. From Calcutta to Namkhana by bus (105 km.), then a short diversion by the ferry across the Hatania Doania river, and then another hour and a half bus journey to Bakkhali. En rout, there is Diamond Harbour (48 km from Calcutta) where there is a comfortable Tourist Lodge for accommodation.

A three hour bus journey from calcutta to Namkhana, a ferry across the river Hatania Doania, and another bus journey for one and half hour to Bakkhali Between Calcutta and Namkhana there are CSTC buses an well as private bus. Departure : Esplanade (CSTC) 0700 hrs. Fare Rs. 13.50 Arrival : Namkhana 1100 hrs. Taxies are also available. Dhanbad is 50 km. from here.Accommodation
For accommodation, there is a Tourist Lodge offering both double-bedded rooms and dormitories. Despite being isolated and having limited accommodation, it is very popular with the citizens of Calcutta. One can walk to the Frasergunj beach from Bakkhali.Nearby Places and other Beaches
Kumardhubi (10 km) and Barakar (12 km) are the nearest railway stations. Asansol Junction is about 35 km from , here . Regular bus services are available from Dhanbad and Maithon to this place.
