Best Time for White Water Rafting in India

There is no fixed or best time for White Water Rafting in India. The flow and behaviour of the rapids are different for different rivers. Come any time and you will find a site to indulge in your favourite water sport.

July to September is the best time for Zanskar river in Ladakh. September to May is ideal time for rafting expeditions on Alaknanda, Bhagirathi and Ganges rivers. Many rafting challenges are organized in April to June on Satluj, Rabi, Chandrabhaga and Beas river in Himachal Pradesh. October to April is the ideal time for rafting on Teesta river of Sikkim and November to March is the best time for rafting in Arunachal Pradesh on Brahmaputra river and its tributaries Lohit and Subansari.

Facilities and Equipments

All the sites have good facilities for enjoying rafting adventure. There are many travel companies and government organizations which provide rafts, necessary equipments, clothing, river side camping items and safety equipments. Experienced guide always accompanies for learners and novice rafters.

River Rafting Tips

Wear a life jacket and helmet. Rafting should be avoided by persons who are diabetic, suffering from high blood pressure or any other serious ailments or pregnant women. Minimum age limit for rafting is 14 years. Non-swimmers are generally not allowed except for the few sections on advice of the river guide. Carry your sleeping bags if you are planning to camp near the rafting site.

Many of the sites are restricted and may require special permits for undertaking river rafting which can be arranged from the government officials of the region or you may simply ask travel companies, they can arrange the same for which you have to pay some amount. Before starting your trip get aware about the length and your fitness level. Ask the trainer to train you how to behave above and under the water. Get the medical fitness test done.

Do not pollute the water by using detergents and leaving plastic bags. Respect the nature and do not do anything which may harm and spoil the eco system. Protect the environment.
