Zorbing also known as Sphering or Globe Riding is an adventure sport in which the rider enters in to an inside capsule of a large ball generally made of transparent plastic and roll downhill or along the ground. The two transparent balls one inside the other are connected to each other by wires and a tunnel by which the rider enters inside the ball. There is an air layer in between the two balls that forms cushion to protect the riders from shocks and jerks. A typical zorb is about 3 metres in diameter with the inner zorb of about 2 metres.

Globe-riding is very popular in New Zealand and the very first Zorb site was made in Rotorua. In India, Zorbing was introduced in 2002 in Solang, 13 km beyond Manali in Himachal Pradesh. This has now gained immense popularity and is attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists every year. Nearly all the tourists who visit Solang in summer go for a ride in a zorb at least once. And though it is somewhat like a roller coaster ride, no one ever suffers from dizziness or nausea.
You can either choose to Zorb in a single rider zorb or two or three rider zorb provided your weight must not exceed 120 kg. For Zorbing, normal summer clothing like a T-shirt and shorts are most recommended. The riders are also required to wear socks while performing this activity. Some people opt for the short rides of about 100 metres while others go for long ones of about 150 metres. You can also enjoy the thrill and adventure of this sport at Solang along with relishing the scenic beauty of this place.
